And Now, For Something Different...
Who had gene-edited goat testicles for their 2020 Bingo Card?
Yessum. You read that right.
My latest piece is about gene-edited goat testicles. Plus cows, pigs and even mice too. It was (not gonna lie) a super fun piece to write. Profoundly important too.
I’ve been sinking my teeth in deep to a lot of BIG issues in food and agriculture these days. I’ve had the honor of writing for some pretty amazing publications as well. And yes, I’ve still got loads of “funny farmer” stories percolating. I know many of you joined this list for those originally.
It’s the curse of an eclectic writer, I suppose. I get the itch to write about many different things, in many different styles. Sometimes I feel funny, sometimes serious. Occasionally ranty. But always with some sort of connection to food, farming and rural living.
So, I’ve decided to take this subscription list a bit differently than how it originally started. Instead of a frequent blast and just one link, I’m going to send it out less frequently (2x a month), with several (but not too many) links. Some funny and lighthearted, some serious.
I’m also curating pieces from other writers that I find interesting and thought you might too. An eclectic food and farming newsletter. Like me.
But I promise not to hit you up with too much. Because, seriously, that’s annoying.
Hope you like the new concept and happy reading!

Georgie Smith, aka “Farmer Georgie,” is a fourth generation farmer, agricultural journalist, humorist, freelance writer and all-around farm and food writing gal. She spent 20 some years farming on a Pacific Northwest island north of Seattle so she’s got plenty to say when it comes to food and farming issues. But still loads to learn.
